Adoption of energy efficient measures, renewable energy solutions and innovative technologies can save Rs 37 crore annually in energy expenditure and 1,36,581 for 66 units in 7 key Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) clusters. Tons of CO2 emissions can be saved.

The study, released on Friday, was conducted by the Center for the Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP) on decarbonisation in the MSME sector.

Decarbonisation refers to the reduction or elimination of carbon dioxide emissions.

While there are potential cost and CO2 reduction benefits, this would require an initial investment of Rs 90 crore in these clusters, the study said.

The study was conducted in units at Alathar, Asansol-Charkanda, Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, Coimbatore, Ludhiana and Tirupur.

A festive offering

It covered more energy and emissions sectors in these clusters such as pharmaceuticals, refractories, aluminum die-casting, bakeries and textile units.
