LondonOctober 22, 2024 ETFGI, a leading independent research and consultancy firm specializing in providing subscription research and annual events on trends in the global ETFs industry.Invested assets in the ETFs industry in Europe reached a new record of US2.25 trillion at the end of September, reported today. The industry collected net inflows of US$24.27 billion during September, bringing year-to-date net inflows to US$176.24 billion, according to ETFGI’s September 2024 European ETFs and ETPs Industry Landscape Insights report, a monthly report. Highlights

  • Investment assets in the ETFs industry in Europe reached a new record of $2.25 Tn at the end of September, beating the previous record of $2.18 Tn at the end of August 2024.
  • Assets are up 23.7% YTD in 2024, moving from $1.82 Tn to $2.25 Tn at the end of 2023.
  • Net inflows of $24.27 billion in September.
  • The YTD net inflow of $176.24 billion is the highest on record, while the second highest YTD net inflow is $154.02 billion in 2021 and the third highest YTD net inflow is $103.00 billion in 2023.
  • 24th consecutive month of net inflows.

“The S&P 500 index is up 2.14% in September and is up 22.08% year-to-date in 2024. The developed market index excluding the US is up 1.26% in September and is up 12.53% YTD in 2024. Hong Kong (up 16.51% in September) and Singapore (up 7.43%) rose 7.72% in September and 19.45% YTD. China (up 23.89 percent) and Thailand (12.43 percent) saw the biggest gains in September, according to Deborah Fuhr, managing partner, founder, and owner of ETFGI.

Assets invested in the ETFs industry in Europe increased by the end of September

The ETFs industry in Europe has 3,076 products, with 12,638 listings, $2.25 Tn in assets, from 101 providers listed on 29 exchanges in 24 countries.

During September, ETFs raised net inflows of $24.27 billion. Equity ETFs collected net inflows of $15.34 billion during September, bringing YTD net inflows to $122.27 billion, up from $55.43 billion in YTD net inflows in 2023. Fixed income ETFs posted net inflows of $6.12 billion during September, bringing net inflows to $6.12 billion during September. That’s a little over $46.20 Bn in YTD net inflows projected in 2023. Commodities ETFs reported net inflows of $33.50 Mn during September, bringing YTD net outflows to $4.90 Bn, drawing more than $4.60 Bn in YTD net outflows in Act2ET3. Inflows of $2.42 billion in September, accumulating net inflows YTD of $11.99 billion, up from $6.04 billion in net inflows YTD in 2023.

Significant inflows by net new assets can be attributed to the top 20 ETFs, which accumulated a total of $14.47 Bn. during September. The iShares Core € Corp Bond UCITS ETF ( IEBC LN ) raised $1.63 billion, the largest individual net inflow.
