The mega auction for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will be held in late November or early December, BCCI sources said on Wednesday. He said that the rules and regulations for this will be issued by the Board for Cricket Council of India (BCCI) in a few days. The Indian Premier League has held two major auctions in the last ten years, with a gap of four years between them. The first major auction was in 2014, then in 2018 – when Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings returned after a two-year suspension.
Regarding developments regarding the mega auction, sources close to the BCCI confirmed to IANS that the auction is likely to take place in late November or early December. BCCI sources told IANS, “The IPL 2025 auction will be held in late November or early December this year.
The 2021 mega auction was forced to be postponed by a year due to the Covid-19 outbreak. In both cases, the teams added an additional year to their players’ contracts.
Like the 2022 auction in February and the 2023 and 2024 auctions in December, the upcoming IPL Mega Sale is likely to be a two-day affair.
In the last mega auction held in 2022, IPL teams were allowed to retain up to four players. With the end of the three-year cycle approaching, there are differing opinions among franchises about the maximum number of players to retain. While some teams argue for a higher retention cap, potentially up to eight players, others are content with the current limit of four or five.
