After finishing the year in T10 for Chennai Braves, Roy started 2024 in SA20 for Durban Supergiants before playing two ILT20 games for Abu Dhabi Knight Riders. Five days later, he started ten matches with Quetta Gladiators in the PSL.

Speaking of latest The Athlete’s Voice podcast, Roy explained that the taxing second half of winter and the desire to spend quality time at home with his family made him decide to skip this edition of the IPL.

“I think it was a big decision to miss this year’s IPL,” Roy said. “KKR put so much faith in me last year after a good year by retaining me and being available for them throughout the year and all the other competitions, you know, I felt like I was a huge asset to them. It was a big decision. But one I made just because it was my daughter’s fifth birthday. As soon as we had our first game, there were some things going on. was tired

“I haven’t come back from a huge amount of cricket, so the last couple of months have really taken that away from me. And so I was very honest with KKR and we have a great relationship, so we did a deal. Reachable and things like that why I wasn’t coming. They totally understood so I’m very grateful to them for that. But I just had to put myself first, you know, Just the mindset and the body.”

“A few years ago, I went through a really bad patch with my mindset,” he said. “With my mental health and things, and I pulled out of the IPL when I signed with Gujarat, and you know it was for a completely different reason. It was because I was in a dark place, I was in a surprising headspace, and it was my own doing.

“I kind of told myself, ‘I’m fine, I’m fine,’ and I kept walking, and I kept playing, and I stayed away from home. And you know, I just shot myself in the foot. That year and since then, I basically told myself, I’m just going to listen to my head, listen to my heart and figure it out from there.

“It’s been a huge learning curve for me, as I’ve been able to make decisions this year, you know, and it may look a certain way. But it has nothing to do with anybody else. Yes, it has nothing to do with anyone else.

“It’s your decision – I have a young family, I’m a grown man and I made this decision after a lot of thought. I didn’t just wake up one morning and think, ‘You know what – I actually There’s no sense of getting on that flight to India. A lot of thought has gone into it, and yes, it’s become much easier to talk about and a much easier decision, just because you know, especially. But experiences from the past, what it can do to you.”
