Friday proved to be a memorable day for Delhi Capitals as Rishabh Pant and Co. beat Lucknow Supergiants to record their second win of IPL 2024. Electing to bat first, LSG posted Ayush Baduni’s unbeaten innings at 167/7 in 20 overs. 55 runs later, DC chased down the target in 18.1 overs for the loss of six wickets. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav was adjudged Man of the Match for his figures of 3/20 in four overs.

Apart from Kuldeep Yadav, a strong partnership between skipper Pant (41) and debutant Jack Fraser-McGurk (55) also proved really productive for DC. However, Pant’s strange dismissal caught everyone’s attention.

The incident occurred in the third delivery of the 16th over which was bowled by spinner Ravi Bishnoi. Pant tried to play a big hit and in the process, he got out of the crease. The ball missed the bat and went straight to wicketkeeper KL Rahul.

As Pant released the shot, the bat slipped from his hand and hit Rahul behind the stumps. However, the LSG skipper did not lose focus and stumped Pant in time.

Despite losing the wicket of Pant, DC chased down the target comfortably as the pair of Tristan Stubbs (15*) and Shai Hope (11*) took DC across the line.

“A bit of relief, we wanted the win badly. I was talking to the boys that we need to think like champions, we need to keep fighting hard. To take responsibility for that, however, we are a Sticking together as a group, some things you can control,” Pant said after the victory.

“I think we’re getting closer to the right XI, but we’ve had a lot of injuries in this group. You can’t complain about that, though. (on Fraser-McGurk) Hopefully, we’ll get our new no. 3, haven’t thought too much about it. Hopefully he can continue,” he added.

DC will now take on Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on April 17. On the other hand, LSG will take on Kolkata Knight Riders in Kolkata on Sunday.
