The Indian cricket team created history in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024 as the Rohit Sharma-led side became the first team to win the competition without losing a single game. India put up several brilliant performances and finally, they defeated South Africa in a thrilling final to lift the T20 World Cup trophy after 17 years. While India’s performance was universally applauded, Suriyakumar Yadav’s athletic catch to dismiss David Miller in the last over of the match raised some doubts. Several videos on social media claimed that he touched the boundary line with his leg while completing the catch and such claims were also reported in some foreign media outlets. Indian cricket team’s legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar was not happy with the allegation and criticized an Australian newspaper for making such claims after India’s victory in the competition.

“An Australian paper also raised a question about the fairness of the catch that Suryakumar Yadav took to dismiss David Miller in the final. All replays were clear that SKY took a brilliant catch. before he crossed the boundary rope and then leaped into the air to catch the ball inside the boundary to complete a brilliant catch,” Gavaskar wrote in his column for Sportsstar.

Gavaskar even said that Australian journalists should look into allegations of cheating against their own national team before commenting on other sides in world cricket.

“Nobody questioned the catch, but the author of the article did. He might be interested in watching a video of Australia’s 10 most cheating acts before trying to point the finger at SKY. The legendary Indian batsman added.
