Former England captain Michael Vaughan believes Mumbai Indians batsman Rohit Sharma could join Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). There has been a lot of chatter about Rohit’s future as MI after the franchise dropped him as captain, with Hardik Pandya taking charge of the team. Fans are not happy with the franchise for replacing Rohit with Hardik, who has played everywhere so far this season, including the home crowd.
While there are rumors that Rohit could be released by MI ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, Vaughan believes that Rohit could be the likely destination for CS.
“Will he (Rohit Sharma) go to Chennai? Replace Dhoni? Gaekwad is doing it (captaincy) this year, and it might just be (a process) for Rohit next year. I see him in Chennai. ” said Vaughan. said on the BeerBiceps podcast.
For the uninitiated, CSK also saw a change in leadership with MS Dhoni handing over the captaincy to Rutoraj Gaikwad.
The host of the show, however, felt that Rohit joining CSK would be “heartbreaking” for MI fans.
The podcast host replied: “It would be heartbreaking, honestly. For MI fans, it would be terrible. I wouldn’t mind him (Sunrisers) going to Hyderabad; they are Deccan Chargers. Played for, so be romantic.”
Discussing the captaincy drama at MI, Wan threw his weight behind Hardik, but suggested that Rohit should have been the captain of the franchise.
Hardik is going through a tough time, and it’s not his fault. He has been asked to captain Mumbai Indians; Who would say no to that? He has been given a job that every Indian cricketer would want to do. It’s been a tough few years, I’m sure the communication wasn’t good.”
“I personally would have captained Rohit. Hardik coming back to MI is enough pressure in itself, and Rohit is obviously going to be the Indian T20 captain. The sensible move would have been to have Rohit as MI captain with Hardik. Had to carry over. Keep that in mind for the next year or 2,” Vaughn said.
