Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has been slammed by fans on social media for enjoying a video of his own batting after the 2024 T20 World Cup defeat by the United States. Afridi played a brilliant cameo of 23 runs off 16 balls, including two sixes, to guide Pakistan to a total of 159 in 20 overs. However, a video of him – recorded on the TikTok application – has gone viral, where he is seen smiling on a video of his batting.

The video was apparently recorded by someone close to Shaheen Afridi, as he was seen enjoying the clip in a relaxed manner.

Afridi was criticized for the video, with some fans pointing out that he had failed to take a wicket during USA’s run chase.

“Shameless attitude… how can you watch a match where you (your protagonist) took zero wickets and then make a tik tok about it,” said an angry fan.

After the match went to Super Over, Pakistan faced defeat by USA. Afridi was not given the ball in the super over. Instead, the returning Mohammad Amir bowled him, but conceded 18.

Afridi conceded 33 runs in his 4 overs.

Defeat by USA has made Pakistan’s position in Group A of T20 World Cup 2024 critical. The US now top the group with two wins in as many games, thus increasing the pressure on Pakistan ahead of their blockbuster game against arch-rivals India.

To add to the pressure on Pakistan, they play India at the Nassau County International Stadium in New York, a stadium where India have already played twice and are used to the pitch conditions.

However, Pakistan’s pace attack of Afridi, Amir, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf is likely to get more help in the New York track.
