The 97th Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025, according to a joint announcement by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and ABC. The new date is in line with the schedule of recent years, maintaining the tradition of holding the event in March after a successful streak of increasing viewership.
One notable change in scheduling is to avoid a clash with Austin’s SXSW festival, which has occurred the past two years. The ceremony will once again begin one hour earlier than usual, at 7 PM ET / 4 PM PT, with Ovation broadcast from the iconic Dolby Theater in Hollywood, ensuring a global reach spanning 200 territories.
Key dates for submissions and voting are detailed below: The general entry and best photo submission deadline is Thursday, November 14. Early voting for shortlists in ten categories will take place from December 9-13, with the results out. Announced on December 17. After that, nominations voting will take place from January 8-12, with the official nominations being unveiled on Friday, January 17, a slight deviation from the traditional timing.
Another significant change this year is the extended period between nominations and final voting, which spans about four weeks. This long tenure puts extra emphasis on winning major guild awards like the DGA, PGA, and SAG.
