Israeli forces backed by drone strikes killed at least 12 people in the occupied West Bank, medics said on Tuesday, after raids around two flashpoint towns in the north sparked armed clashes with Palestinians.

The Israeli military said it had carried out two separate airstrikes in the volatile city of Jenin, targeting armed cells, but gave no further details.

Five people were killed in attacks on two vehicles in Jenin, one of the most violent centers of armed activity in the West Bank, the Palestinian Health Ministry said. Another person was seriously injured.
