Israeli forces backed by drone strikes killed at least 12 people in the occupied West Bank, medics said on Tuesday, after raids around two flashpoint towns in the north sparked armed clashes with Palestinians.
The Israeli military said it had carried out two separate airstrikes in the volatile city of Jenin, targeting armed cells, but gave no further details.
Five people were killed in attacks on two vehicles in Jenin, one of the most violent centers of armed activity in the West Bank, the Palestinian Health Ministry said. Another person was seriously injured.
The attacks came during an Israeli military operation in Jenin, with footage shared on social media showing a column of armored vehicles entering the city and armored bulldozers digging up roads.
As a result of the raid, Israeli forces surrounded a house in the village of Kafr Qad near Jenin. Local Palestinian medical workers said three people were killed and two wounded in the exchange of fire.
