More than 180,000 Palestinians have fled Khan Yunis, the United Nations said.

Gaza:

Gaza’s Civil Defense Agency said on Saturday that about 170 people have been killed and hundreds wounded since the Israeli military operation around Khan Yunis began on Monday.

“Since the start of the Israeli military operation in the Khan Yunis area, we are talking about about 170 martyrs and hundreds of wounded,” agency spokesman Mahmoud Bassil told AFP.

He said that many people have become homeless once again on Saturday due to the ongoing Israeli operation.

“The question is, where will these residents go?” Basil said.

“Anyone who looks at the situation in Khan Yunis will see thousands of people sprawled on the ground, on the streets, in areas that are unfortunately not fit for living.

“With no other options, they’re putting themselves to death.”

Earlier on Saturday, the army issued new evacuation orders for residents of the southern city after recovering the bodies of five Israelis and warning of new operations.

More than 180,000 Palestinians have fled Khan Yunis since the Israeli operation began on Monday, the United Nations said.

Evacuation orders and “intense hostilities” have “significantly destabilized relief operations”, it said, adding that “grave water, sanitation and hygiene situations” were reported in the Palestinian territories.

The Israeli military said it launched the operation to stop rocket fire from the area, which had already seen heavy fighting earlier this year.

On Wednesday, he said soldiers had recovered the bodies of five Israelis from the area.

The army said they were killed during Hamas attacks on October 7 and their bodies were taken back to Gaza.

On Saturday, he ordered residents of more areas in Khan Yunis to “temporarily evacuate to the humanitarian adjusted area in Al-Mawasi” – the second such adjustment to the safe zone within a week.
