California Earthquake: That 7.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded at a depth of only 10 km.

California:

A powerful earthquake struck off the coast of California on Thursday, prompting a tsunami warning, US seismologists said.

According to the United States Geological Survey, the magnitude 7.0 earthquake was recorded at a depth of just 10 kilometers (six miles), about 100 kilometers west-southwest of Ferndale.

A warning issued by the National Weather Service’s Tsunami Warning Center in Honolulu stated that “based on preliminary earthquake parameters … a dangerous tsunami is likely for coasts within 300 kilometers of the epicenter.”

No areas have yet experienced waves, but anyone near the coastline should be alert for the possibility of danger, the warning said.
