Around 100 vehicles were involved in a multi-vehicle accident in Kazakhstan.

About 100 vehicles were involved in a multi-vehicle accident on the Astana-Shuchensk road in the Akmola region of Kazakhstan, according to the Kazanform news agency.

According to the local police department, the road accident took place between Kogam and Karatal villages of Barzhan Sal district on January 3 around 1:30 pm.

The accident was a result of a snowstorm and there are no reports of casualties or injuries yet. Police have said that work to remove the vehicles is underway and emergency service personnel are also at the scene.

Per KazAvtoJol, the national operator for managing highways, non-compliance with speed limits and safe distances led to mass accidents.

About 22 road vehicles and two tractors are at the accident site and traffic is restricted for all types of vehicles.

Additionally, emergency services warned of possible severe weather conditions and recommended avoiding road travel, particularly on country roads.
