Rio de Janeiro, Brazil:

A Brazilian judge on Tuesday ordered the unblocking of Elon Musk’s XK bank accounts in the country after the social media platform agreed to pay more than $5 million in fines.

The decision by Supreme Court Justice Alexander de Moraes paves the way for X to be lifted in Brazil, where it has been restricted to users since August 31 due to a miscommunication between a judge and Musk.

Morris ordered the shutdown of X in Latin America’s largest country after Musk refused to remove dozens of right-wing accounts and then failed to name a new legal representative in the country as ordered.

In his latest ruling, the judge ordered Brazil’s central bank to unblock X’s bank accounts so he could receive the transfer and “immediately pay the fines indicated.”

X had informed the court that it would pay $5.2 million in fines.

High-profile judge Morris has been embroiled in a long-running feud with Musk, the owner of Tesla and SpaceX, as part of his campaign to crack down on misinformation in Brazil.

The clash between the Brazilian court and the billionaire has become a high-stakes dispute testing the limits of both freedom of expression and corporate responsibility in South America’s largest country.

X had more than 22 million users in Brazil before the ban, which was imposed on August 31.

The company last week began complying with Brazilian court conditions to become operational again.

Musk has repeatedly attacked Morris in social media posts, calling him an “evil dictator” and naming him “Voldemort” after the villain from the “Harry Potter” series.
