A UK man accidentally stabbed himself while trying to separate two frozen burgers with a knife, in a freak accident that initially baffled police, a court heard. According to the report, Barry Griffiths, 57, died in July last year after accidentally stabbing himself with a blade at his home in Powys, Wales. Western Telegraph.
Mr Griffiths, who lived alone and was described as “extremely private”, had been dead for several days before police discovered his body after a welfare check found his entire kitchen. And there was blood all over the bedroom.
Her phone, wallet and computer were left untouched, and there were no signs of a struggle in her apartment.
Police found Mr Griffiths fully clothed in his bed with no evidence of an assault. The court was told that it was only after discovering uncooked burger patties that detectives pieced together what had happened.
“The bottom drawer of the freezer was left open and pulled forward to access the food items,” said Detective Chief Inspector Jonathan Rees.
“There were two uncooked burgers, a knife and a tea towel on the work surface in the kitchen adjacent to the fridge freezer,” he continued.
“The abdominal wound would have been about the height of the work surface. My assumption at this stage was that Mr Griffiths was trying to cut open a frozen burger with a knife.”
A medical examiner concluded that Mr Griffiths – who had limited use of one arm due to a stroke – had probably died of accidental injuries rather than suicide.
