Rome:

An International Criminal Court arrest warrant for Benjamin Netanyahu will be discussed at next week’s G7 ministers’ meeting in Italy, Prime Minister Georgia Maloney said on Friday.

Israel and its allies condemned the ICC’s decision to issue an arrest warrant for the Israeli prime minister on Thursday, even as Turkey and rights groups welcomed the move.

Maloney’s hard-right coalition government appeared divided.

Defense Minister Guido Croceto said on Thursday that Italy would have to arrest Israel’s prime minister if he were to visit, only for Meloni’s deputy prime minister, Matteo Salvini, to say that Netanyahu would be welcomed in Italy.

“In the coming days I will delve deeper into the reasons that led to the ICC’s decision. Reasons that must always be objective and not political in nature,” Maloney said in a statement. I said.

He said the issue would be on the agenda of a meeting of the Group of Seven foreign ministers in Foggia, near Rome, on Monday and Tuesday.

The ICC has also issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu’s former defense minister and Hamas military chief Mohammad Def.

“One point remains clear from this administration — there can be no equation between the responsibility of the State of Israel and the terrorist organization Hamas,” Maloney said.
