Los Angeles Fires: The iconic Hollywood landmark, which has featured in countless TV shows and movies over the years, faces a major fire threat as wildfires continue to wreak havoc in Los Angeles. As the fake news went viral, the Hollywood Sign’s official handle clarified in a Facebook post that it “stands tall”.
“The Hollywood Sign is still up! Please keep the rest of Los Angeles County in your thoughts, and be vigilant if you must travel,” read the post.
Users on X (formerly Twitter) also posted messages refuting claims, with some saying the use of AI images to spread fake news during a natural disaster was ‘psychological’.
“Hollywood sign is not up yet due to California fires, but if the fire doesn’t stop it could be soon,” said one user while another added: “Hollywood sign But using AI to set fire is truly psychological.”
A third commented: “Stop with the bullsh*t, people are missing out on everything. Hollywood sign on fire is a fake, stop reposting it.”
The Palisades fire
The Palisades fire, which started on Tuesday (Jan. 7), has burned more than 17,000 acres. In total, the wildfires have burned more than 27,000 acres. More than 100,000 residents have been ordered to evacuate, including high-profile figures who have lost their multimillion-dollar homes, particularly in Malibu.
While the Hollywood Sign was spared, the iconic Sunset Boulevard was severely affected by the wildfires. A portion of this area, which spans 25 miles, is located in Pacific Palisades. The Palisades suffered heavy fire damage, and many buildings along the famous street were burned to the ground.
Trump blamed Newsom for the fire
President-elect Donald Trump blamed Gavin Newsom for the fires, adding that California’s governor had rejected plans to send more water to the state’s agricultural Central Valley.
