Protesters are demanding the resignation of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

New Delhi:

India on Sunday night strongly advised all its citizens living in Bangladesh to exercise “extreme caution” and restrict their movement in view of fresh waves of violence in the neighboring country.

In its latest advisory, India asked its citizens not to travel to Bangladesh until further notice.

At least 90 people, including 14 policemen, were killed in clashes between security forces and anti-government protesters in various parts of Bangladesh on Sunday, according to reports from Dhaka.

The protesters are demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“In view of the ongoing developments, Indian nationals are strongly advised not to travel to Bangladesh until further notice,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in the advisory.

“All Indian nationals in Bangladesh are advised to exercise extreme caution, restrict their movement and stay in touch with the High Commission of India in Dhaka,” it said.

Student protests in Bangladesh began last month against a controversial job quota scheme. This protest has now turned into an anti-government demonstration.

On July 25, the MEA said that around 6,700 Indian students have returned from Bangladesh due to the situation in that country.
