Israel’s defense minister said it would not allow Hezbollah militias to destabilize the border.

Jerusalem:

Defense Minister Yves Gallant said on Thursday that Israel would confront Hezbollah “with all its might” if the Lebanese armed group continued its “aggression” across the border.

“We will not allow Hezbollah militias to destabilize the border and the region,” Gallant said in a message to the Lebanese people. “If Hezbollah continues its aggression, Israel will confront it with all its might.” Will.” His office.

Hezbollah has exchanged fire almost daily with Israeli forces backed by its ally Hamas since the start of the war in Gaza after the Palestinian militant group attacked Israel on October 7.

Fears of an all-out war have risen since Israel killed top Hezbollah military commander Fawad Shukr in an airstrike on the outskirts of Beirut last week.

Reminding Lebanese people of the 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah, Gallant warned Lebanon to “learn from the past so as not to fall into a dangerous scenario in August 2024”.

The devastating 34-day war in July-August 2006 killed more than 1,200 people in Lebanon, mostly civilians, and about 160 Israelis, mostly soldiers.
