New Delhi:

Indian-American Congressman Rowe Khanna today said the ousting of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from his country was “good” but “the violence against Hindus now was wrong”.

“Bangladeshi students only had human rights concerns against Prime Minister Hasina. It is good that she is gone. But the violence against Hindus now is wrong. Prime Minister Younis must uphold the rule of law and Targeting of temples or people of any political party or faith should be stopped.” Violence,” Roe Khanna wrote in a post on X today.

Sheikh Hasina, 76, was forced to resign as prime minister on Monday after a month of anti-government protests over government job quotas that left more than 400 people dead.

After her resignation, Ms. Hasina flew to India from Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka, in a military aircraft. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar yesterday said the government was giving Sheikh Hasina time to “recover” and inform her about her next move.

Sources had earlier said that she wanted to leave for London and claim political asylum, but this claim was rejected by her son Sajib Wazeed.

Bangladesh’s military on Thursday formed a caretaker government in the country with Nobel laureate Muhammad Younis as its chief adviser.
