Washington:
Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has rejected her Republican rival Donald Trump’s offer to move the presidential debate to Fox News Channel, media reports said Sunday.
Trump, 78, and President Joe Biden — who was then running for the White House — agreed to participate in two presidential debates in May. The first was in June, hosted by CNN, and the second – hosted by ABC News – was scheduled for September 10.
Biden dropped out of the race last month after Vice President Harris, who is of Indian and African heritage, received enough votes from Democratic delegates in a virtual roll call for the ruling Democratic Party’s 2024 nomination. He was declared a presidential candidate.
On Saturday, Trump said he had accepted an offer from Fox News to debate Vice President Harris on Sept. 4, CBS News reported.
“I have agreed to debate Kamala Harris on Wednesday September 4th with FoxNews. The debate was originally scheduled on ABC against Sleepy Joe Biden, but it has been canceled with Biden no longer participating. , and I am in litigation against ABC Network and George Sloupadopoulos, thereby creating a conflict of interest,” he said.
Meanwhile, Harris turned to X to turn down Trump’s offer to debate on Fox News.
“It’s interesting how “any time, any place” becomes “a specific time, a specific safe place”. I’ll be there on September 10th, as he agreed. I hope I can. Will see him there,” Harris said.
The Harris campaign also said it would stick with ABC News’ original plan for the debate.
According to the report, it says “Donald Trump is running scared” hoping Fox News will “bail out” of the debate he has already agreed to with ABC News. .
“He needs to stop playing games and show up for the Sept. 10 debate,” the report quoted Harris campaign communications director Michael Tyler as saying.
“One way or another, the vice president will take the opportunity to speak to a prime-time national audience,” Tyler said, adding that the campaign is open to further discussion but only after the two campaigns have already agreed. takes place.
Last month, Harris challenged Trump to a debate, prompting him to say whatever he wanted to say.
Harris will face Trump in the Nov. 5 general election.
