“Inquiries are ongoing,” London police said (representative).
London:
British police said Friday that officers set off a controlled explosion after finding a “suspicious package” outside the U.S. embassy in London.
The explosion was carried out by the capital’s Metropolitan Police Force after cordoning off a high-security site in Nine Elms, just south of the River Thames.
“We can confirm that the ‘loud explosion’ reported by officers in the area a short time ago was a controlled explosion,” the force said in a post on X.
We are aware of speculation online about an incident surrounding the US Embassy in Nine Elms.
The area has been cordoned off as a precaution while officers investigate the suspicious package.
We will provide further updates in due course.
