Washington, USA:
The FBI uncovered more than 150 homemade bombs at a Virginia farm in what is believed to be the largest such seizure in the agency’s history, according to court documents filed this week. . Agents found the explosives during a search of 36-year-old Brad Spafford’s home after a neighbor reported that he was storing weapons and homemade ammunition.
Court documents filed Monday said Spafford, who worked at a machine shop, used photos of President Joe Biden for target practice and expressed support for political assassinations.
Explosives believed to be pipe bombs were found in a bag in a bedroom at the property, which Spafford shares with his wife and two young children, the document said.
It added that Spafford’s freezer contained a jar of HMTD — a “highly unstable” explosive device — stored with food and labeled “do not touch.”
According to the filing, his home also contained a notebook of “recipes” for making explosives, including hand grenades.
A neighbor told FBI agents that Spafford had discussed fortifying his property with “a 360-degree turret for a .50-caliber firearm on the roof.”
Prosecutors said Spafford, who has been charged with unlawful possession of a rifle, will likely face additional explosive charges, each of which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. is
In a separate filing Tuesday, Spafford’s attorneys argued for his release from custody, defending him as “a hard-working family man with no criminal record.”
