Riyadh, Saudi Arabia:

Saudi Arabia on Monday expressed its “grave concern” over the conflict in Lebanon, calling for the country’s “sovereignty and territorial integrity” to be respected.

A Foreign Ministry statement said: “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is watching the developments in the Republic of Lebanon with great concern.”

As the country’s health ministry said more than 100 people had been killed in Israeli strikes on targets across the country on Sunday, Riyadh stressed the need to respect Lebanon’s sovereignty.

It added that “the country calls on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities in safeguarding regional peace and security to protect the region and its people from the dangers and tragedies of wars.”

Israel has carried out several days of deadly attacks on targets in Lebanon, including on Friday killing Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of the Iran-backed Hezbollah group, and other senior figures in the movement.

International calls for restraint from Israel are mounting as it prepares for a possible ground attack against Hezbollah in Lebanon, amid fears of an all-out war in the Middle East.
