Dubai:
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Saturday that the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah would be avenged and his path to war against Israel would be continued by other militants.
Ayatollah Khamenei, in a statement read on state television in which he announced five days of mourning in Iran, said “(Nasrullah) was not an individual, he was a path and a school of thought, and that path must be followed.” will be continued.”
He said that the martyr’s blood will not go in vain.
According to state media reports, Ayatollah Khamenei said in an earlier statement issued after the Israeli army killed Nasrallah: “The fate of this region will be decided by resistance forces, including Hezbollah.” It will be ahead.”
After Hezbollah confirmed Nasrallah’s death, Iranian media reported that the deputy commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, General Abbas Nilfroshan, was killed “along with Nasrallah” in an Israeli strike on south Beirut on Friday.
Iranian President Masoud Pizshakyan blamed Nasrallah’s death in part on the United States, which has long supplied Israel with advanced weapons.
“The Americans cannot deny their partnership with the Zionists,” Pyzhashkian said in a statement carried by state media.
In a post on X, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani vowed that Nasrallah’s path would continue and his holy goal of liberating Jerusalem would be achieved.
Meanwhile, two regional officials briefed by Tehran told Reuters that Ayatollah Khamenei had been moved to a safe place inside the country under tight security measures.
Sources said Iran is in constant contact with Lebanon’s Hezbollah and other regional proxy groups to determine the next step after Nasrallah’s assassination.
