Washington:
Following the terrorist attack in New Orleans where an ISIS supporter drove a car into a crowd during New Year’s celebrations, President Joe Biden assured on Thursday (local time) that the US is fighting ISIS. will continue to pursue IS and other terrorist organizations.
“We will relentlessly pursue ISIS and other terrorist organizations where they are and they will find no safe harbor here,” Biden said.
Biden said that 15 people including the attacker were killed in this attack. He then assured that no one else was involved in the attack.
“The death toll in New Orleans has risen to 15, with 35 injured, including the attacker. Today, the FBI briefed me that, at this time, we have no information that anyone else was involved in the attack. Biden said the attacker was the same person who planted explosives in those ice coolers at two nearby locations in the French Quarter, hours before driving into the crowd.
Biden added that the attacker, Shamsuddin Jabbar, whose car was found with an ISIS flag, has indicated support for terrorist organizations in videos he has made.
“As I said yesterday, the attacker posted several videos just hours before the attack indicating his strong support for ISIS. actively investigating foreign or domestic contacts and communications that may be related to the attack,”
Additionally, speaking about a possible connection between the New Orleans attack and the Las Vegas cyber truck blast, Biden said that the investigation is still ongoing, but that no evidence of such a connection has yet been found.
One person was killed and seven were injured when a Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas. CNN reported that the vehicles used in both incidents were rented from car rental site ‘Toro’, prompting authorities to look for links between the two incidents.
