Amid tensions in the Middle East, the Houthi leader said that there should be a military response to these crimes.
Sana:
The leader of Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels vowed a “military response” to the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on Thursday, blaming Israel for the attack.
“There must be a military response to these crimes, which are shameless and dangerous, and a major escalation by the Israeli enemy,” Abdul Malik al-Houthi said in a televised speech.
Yemeni rebels have been firing drones and missiles at shipping in the Red Sea since November, saying they are in solidarity with Palestinians during the Gaza war.
A deadly Houthi drone attack on Tel Aviv last month prompted Israeli airstrikes on Hodeidah, Yemen’s lifeline port, killing nine people and sparking a massive volcano.
The rebel leader called the killing of the Hamas chief “a flagrant violation of all principles and rules.”
He also condemned the killing of Hezbollah military commander Fawad Shukar in Beirut on Tuesday in an attack claimed by Israel.
