In a major employment initiative, the fourth edition of the Nationwide Grand Employment Fair was held on 29 October 2024 at 40 locations across India. With more than 51,000 government job offers for selected candidates across the country, Andaman and Nicobar Islands emerged as the leading destination, with 1,044 offers distributed to successful candidates in the region.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the gathering at all participating locations through video conferencing, officially launching the distribution by pressing a remote button that enabled the offer of appointments to over 51,000 candidates. His virtual address highlighted the government’s commitment to increase employment opportunities in India’s diverse regions.
Andaman and Nicobar Islands not only topped this year’s event but also topped job offers during the first and third job fairs, further confirming the region’s significant participation and success in the government’s recruitment efforts.
At the local function Mr. Satish Chandra Dubey, Minister of State for Coal and Mines served as Chief Guest, Member of Parliament for Andaman and Nicobar Islands Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray as Chief Guest. Mr. Dubey praised the PM Modi-led government for providing employment opportunities, noting that 1,044 candidates from Andaman and Nicobar Islands received job offers, of which 532 were women and 512 were men. He highlighted it as a sign of progress, with women gaining parity with men in government jobs. He also praised the transparent election process and acknowledged the natural beauty and clean air quality of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray in his address praised the transparency of recruitment within Andaman and Nicobar Islands and acknowledged the leadership of the Chief Secretary. He expressed his disappointment at the early exclusion from the list of appointed speakers but assured that he would appreciate the administration’s efforts in Parliament to carry out a fair recruitment process. However, they also took the opportunity to criticize certain management failures, giving pointers for improvement.
In the absence of Regular Chief Secretary Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS, Mr. ASPS Ravi Prakash, Chief Secretary (in-charge) represented the A&N management at the function. After the Prime Minister’s address, the local officials started distributing the appointment letters to the successful candidates.
The 4th Grand Job Fair marks another milestone in the government’s mission to expand opportunities for youth and promote inclusive growth in all regions.
