In Andhra Pradesh, the Chandrababu Naidu government still needs to fulfill its election promise of providing employment opportunities to the youth. However, it has created mechanisms through which retirees are allowed to contract for redeployment and outsourcing.

In their respective election manifestos, TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu and Jana Sena leader Pawan Kalyan announced that they would provide employment opportunities to 2 million youth. He also promised the unemployed youth that they will be paid Rs 3,000 per month until they find a job.
Unfortunately, the government has not followed through on such promises since coming to power. On the contrary, it has introduced rules to offer contracts to its retirees on contract and outsourcing basis, thus eliminating all new candidates.

What the government has done has brightened the faces of the unemployed youth who want to secure themselves government jobs.
A senior official condemned it, even saying, “The government is stealing opportunities for new candidates by redeploying retired employees.” This move will further increase unemployment. The government order covers the posts of Deputy Secretary, Deputy Director and lower cadre. On re-appointment, a Screening Committee shall consist of the Principal Secretary of the Finance Department.

Payment of various allowances and salaries paid to retired employees will be made as per the instructions and regulations of the Finance Department for the financial year 2018.
As a result, the unemployed youth responded with surprise to the minister’s questions asking if they would ever get a chance to work in government jobs.
