New Delhi, Jan 3 (IANS) India has added 17.9 crore jobs in the last decade, Sanju Verma, an economist and BJP national spokesperson said, adding that “modenomics is alive and kicking”. .
Speaking to IANS, Verma said that 4.7 crore jobs were created in India last year alone.
“In the last 10 years under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we have added 17.9 crore jobs,” he said, citing Reserve Bank of India data.
In contrast, Verma noted that the Congress government created only 2.9 crore jobs between 2004 and 2014.
“The unemployment rate, which was 6 per cent in the financial year 2017-18, has come down significantly. Now it stands at barely 3.2 per cent,” a BJP spokesperson said.
“So, we have a record low when it comes to unemployment, which is a huge positive,” Verma said.
He also cited an increase in India’s Worker Population Ratio (WPR) — the employment rate or the number of people actively employed; and the labor force participation rate (LFPR), which refers to the number of people already actively employed, and includes the number of people seeking active employment.
“WPR was 46.8 per cent in FY18 and now the figure is 58.2 per cent,” Verma said.
On the other hand, “the LFPR, which was 49.8 per cent in FY18, today stands at a very solid 60.1 per cent”, he added.
The BJP spokesperson also highlighted the gender contribution in the labor force.
“Among males, the LFPR increased from 78.5 to 78.8 percent between July 2022 and June 2023,” he said.
“Among women, it is the highest till date in post-independence India, rising from 37 per cent in July 2022 to 41.7 per cent in June 2023,” Verma noted.
Additionally, Verma also compared the jobs created under the PM Modi-led government and the previous Congress-led government in various sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture and services.
“The number of manufacturing jobs created under Narendra Modi’s patronage has increased by 15 percent,” Verma said.
However, from 2004 to 2014 under Congress, “employment in the manufacturing sector grew by only 6 percent”, he said.
In the services sector, “jobs grew by an impressive 36 percent under PM Modi’s leadership” — 10 percent more than the Congress government. During the Congress government, employment in the service sector grew by only 25%.
“Imagine a 36 percent increase in the number of jobs created in the services sector, which accounts for more than 58 percent of our economy, which speaks to the fact that we are moving in the right direction, absolutely. Unconditional, unequivocal thanks to Modi-Namaks,” Verma told IANS.
Meanwhile, he said that under the Congress-led UPA, employment in the agriculture sector declined from 2004 to 2014.
“There was a negative growth of 16 per cent, while now employment generation in agriculture and allied sectors has increased by 19 per cent,” Verma said.
