CHANDIGARH: BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh on Friday thanked the Modi government for its decision to provide jobs to families affected by the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and to relax employment eligibility.
The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi distributed appointment letters to 47 victims of the 1984 riots after relaxing the recruitment eligibility. Further, the department concerned has been directed to complete the verification of 437 other applications and issue appointment letters at the earliest.
In a statement, Chugh launched a scathing attack on the Congress, saying its leaders responsible for the 1984 Sikh massacre have always been favored by the Gandhi family. He pointed out that Congress leaders such as Jagdish Tytler, Sajjan Kumar, and Kamal Nath, who were either tried or were still facing cases, were found guilty and imprisoned. However, he remains a member of the Congress Party, which exposes the party’s involvement in the 1984 Sikh riots.
Chugh questioned the Gandhi family, asking, “For so many years, when the Congress was in power, why were the rioters not punished?” Instead, an attempt was made to give them a clean chit. Did Rahul Gandhi ever visit the widows’ colony of the Delhi riots to inquire about their well-being?
Chugh praised the Modi government for re-investigating all closed cases related to the 1984 riots and conducting an impartial investigation to punish the culprits. He asserted that it shows the will power of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his deep sympathy, respect and sensitivity towards the families of the victims.
Chugh also hailed the recent verdict as a salve for the victims’ families, saying that for them it was not just a job but a sign of a new beginning and restored dignity. After 40 years of government neglect, the victims were finally given letters of appointment by the Lt. Governor of Delhi, along with some relaxation of qualifications, he added.
