New Delhi, Sep 29 (IANS) India has the second largest number of anime fans worldwide and is expected to contribute 60 per cent to the worldwide growth in anime interest in the coming years. With the new National Center of Excellence (NCoE) for the AVGC-XR (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics and Augmented Reality) sector, the industry is expected to generate 5 lakh jobs, the government said on Sunday.
According to the government, with a growth rate of 25 percent and an estimated value of Rs 46 billion by 2023 (as per FICCI-EY report), the animation industry in India is booming and offers a promising future for ambitious young talent. .
The AVGC-XR sector is poised to be the future of the media and entertainment industry. In this regard, the Cabinet has approved the setting up of NCoE for AVGC-XR sector in Mumbai, as it aims to drive the creative economy to ensure economic growth and employment opportunities.
The NCoE will be established in India as a Section 8 company under the Companies Act, 2013 with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) as partners with the Govt. Will represent institutions.
The center aims to revolutionize the AVGC sector and promote innovation in immersive technologies. It will be modeled after famous institutes like Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs).

Students will gain practical experience through industry-driven courses, ensuring they are job-ready upon graduation.
