JAMMU: Nine cases have been registered against landlords in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district for allegedly failing to provide details of their tenants, mostly outsiders, to the local police for verification, authorities said on Friday. told
The verification process was initiated after several incidents of anti-national elements posing as tenants or housemaids in residential areas.
“Police have registered nine FIRs against house and land owners in Samba for not providing details of tenants during the verification drive launched across the district,” a police spokesperson said.
The Samba police launched a campaign to monitor outsiders living in the area as tenants or domestic workers.
He added that five cases were registered in Samba police station, while two cases each were registered in Ghagwal and Bari Brahman police stations under relevant provisions of Bharatiya Naya Sanhita.
Police verification of the tenants has been made mandatory by the district magistrate, a guideline that the bookies failed to follow, the spokesperson said.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Samba has also urged citizens to submit complete details of their tenants and domestic workers at their nearest police station to ensure timely verification. (PTI)
