In an effort to transform lives and accelerate development, the Punjab government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is committed to the cause of women empowerment. Believing that no state can develop without empowering its women, the government has launched a series of special employment camps aimed at providing employment opportunities to women, thereby promoting economic independence.
Start of employment camps
Under this initiative, special employment camps have been started in several districts including Hoshiarpur, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Barnala, and Gurdaspur. These camps have had a profound impact on more than 1100 women, helping them to acquire various employment roles and thereby paving the way for their self-reliance. Punjab Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur announced this promising step for women empowerment.
Driven by opportunity
These job camps were not just about offering jobs. They represented hope, freedom, and breaking social barriers. Dr. Baljit Kaur has emphasized the dedication of the Punjab government for the economic empowerment of women. More than 370 potential candidates participated in the Barnala camp, where tech companies like IBM and Microsoft provide training opportunities, he said. Of these, 88 women were selected for free training, embarking on a journey full of potential and promise.
Impressive participation in all districts
Sectors ranging from banking, insurance, textiles, IT, to beauty products were part of these camps, each of which opened doors to new possibilities for women participants. Companies engaged in direct interviews, and several women were offered jobs on the spot, while many others were shortlisted for future recruitment processes. This initiative has brought about a significant change, allowing women from various walks of life to step into roles that were once a distant dream.
Heartbreaking results and future prospects
Employment camps have shown great results. In Gurdaspur, of the 465 participating women, 356 secured positions in roles such as warehousing, telecalling, computer operations, security services, and consulting. Similarly, the Hoshiarpur camp witnessed the participation of more than 1500 women, of whom 204 successfully secured jobs and another 412 progressed to the final interview stage. These figures are not just statistics but stories of individual triumphs that echo the larger narrative of the empowerment journey.
In Sri Muktsar Sahib, 1134 women candidates participated, out of which 578 successfully moved a step closer to financial independence. These job camps represent more than just jobs. They stand as evidence of the state’s commitment to fostering an environment where women feel empowered and valued.

While these initiatives have already changed many lives, the Punjab government envisions a future where every woman has the opportunity to contribute equally to society.
