Margao: Global Roman Leapi Abiyan (GRLA) has strongly opposed the decision of the GOA Staff Selection Commission (GSSC) in which only the Konkani examination papers have been compiled in the Devanagi script, and warned. He can discriminate with minority communities in recruitment of government jobs.
In a press statement released on Thursday, the GRLA said that the purpose of making Konkani mandatory for recruitment exams is to give priority to guise in public sector employment, but minority by keeping the language to a Devanagri script. Applicants, especially from Guan Catholic community, one, especially from Guan Catholic community, damage
The organization highlighted that Konkani is a widely spoken language that has a rich history, but its development has been hindered by the government’s insistence on the use of only the Devanagi script. “Kankani should be released with the shackles of a single script and allow it to be more popular in education, government administration and urban services in the Roman script,” said GRLA President Kennedy Offso.
The GRLA linked the issue to the recent Supreme Court decision on January 29, in which it was ruled that the concept of regional or provincial domicile is alien to Indian law. The court observed that all Indian citizens share the same national domicile, which effectively challenges the need for a 15 -year residential certificate for admission to postgraduate medical courses and government jobs by the Goa government. The organization has said that the decision to apply for students who applied for postgraduate seats in Goans, especially in Goa Medical College (GMC), as well as students who want to seek government jobs and state welfare schemes. There can be far -reaching effects.
“With a 15 -year -old resident certificate, there is now a risk of legal challenges, Konkani has become the only safety for job recruitment and higher education,” GRLA said. However, the organization has warned that keeping the language a dedication script will result in an unfair choice that is in favor of one community compared to others.
The group pointed out that the Roman script is more widely used among young people than the Devanagi. “Most people stop writing in Devanagri after completing school, while Roman script is used daily, especially in mobile communication and digital platforms. The fair competition in jobs can be effectively excluded.
The GRLA further argued that the existing system of setting up a special question paper in Devanagri already hurts minority applicants. The statement states, “If the government truly intends to ensure fair opportunities, it should come up with a solution that protects the interests of all communities rather than implementing a system. Which only benefits. “
The organization emphasized that the government should recognize the role of the Roman script in the continuous development of Konkani and the adoption of policies accordingly. “The use of the Roman script has played an important role in keeping Konkani alive in the digital age. The government has to recognize this contribution rather than limiting the language to a single script.
The organization called on the Goa government to take immediate action to ensure its participation in its policies and to prevent discrimination against any community in education, public administration and urban services.
