The government has constituted a committee to examine the possibility of raising the age limit for entry into government services, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Muhammad Mukhlisur Rehman said today (September 30).

The committee will submit an advisory report to the government within seven working days, the secretary told reporters at a press conference at the secretariat this afternoon.

Abdul Moeed Chaudhary, advisor to the former caretaker government, has been made the head of the committee, while Mukhlisur Rahman will serve as member secretary.

The move comes as job seekers staged a sit-in outside the residence of the interim government’s chief adviser today demanding that the age limit for government jobs be raised to 35 years.

Police fired tear gas to disperse the protesters from the spot. Several people, including journalists, were reportedly injured during the clash between the police and a group of protesters.

Earlier, the protesters took out a rally in front of the National Museum in Shahbagh of the capital, in which students of educational institutions from different parts of the country as well as men and women of different ages joined.

Around 1:30 pm, the protesters broke the police barricade and marched from Shah Bagh to the residence of CA. At around 2 pm, the police fired tear gas shells to disperse them.
