LG Saxena on Thursday visited a colony built for the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in west Delhi’s Tilak Vihar and gave job appointment letters to around 50 people.

A local resident, Deepak Sethi, who received the job letter, said he was relieved.

“Now our children’s future looks secure. Previous governments stopped our work. We have been demanding jobs since 2006. A total of 50 people got appointment letters,” he added.

Harvinder Singh, another local resident who received the appointment letter from LG Saxena, said that the file related to the appointment letters was passed in 2006, but now only the work is done.

“Great relief. Now the future of the children is secure,” he added.

Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) vice-president Atma Singh Labana, who has been instrumental in the fight for jobs for victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, said around 500-600 more people are expected to find jobs. , whose files are still pending.

The LG has directed the Divisional Commissioner and Chief Secretary to set up a camp here next week and verify all the files related to issuing appointment letters to all the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Those who have not received the job letters will get them soon.

Labana said that in 2006, the then Congress government shortlisted 72 people for jobs, but “cunningly” did not give jobs to anyone.

“Some of the victims of the anti-Sikh riots were not recruited on the grounds of illiteracy while others were rejected on the grounds of old age. The Lt Governor added that all such Conditions have been removed.

Talking about the changes that have come after the formation of PM Modi’s government, Labana said that 1984 riots accused Sajjan Kumar was sent to jail and another prime accused Congress leader Jagdish Tytler has been chargesheeted.
