Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Gurpreet Gogi was declared dead on Saturday after he accidentally shot himself. According to reports, the incident took place around 12 pm. Gogi was rushed to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMC), where he was declared brought dead.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jaskaran Singh Teja, “According to family members, he accidentally shot himself and was hit in the head. Gurpreet Gogi was declared brought dead at the hospital. The body has been kept at the DMC mortuary.”

Teja said that the cause of death would be clear after the post-mortem report. The DCP added that the cause of death would be known after the post-mortem report.

According to news agency PTI, the incident took place around midnight, and according to officials, the MLA was declared brought dead on arrival at DMC Hospital.

Further investigations are underway.

Gogi joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 2022 and defeated former Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu twice during the Ludhiana Assembly elections.

Punjab Minister Hardeep Singh Mandyan expressed grief over the death of Ludhiana MLA and AAP leader Gurpreet Gogi, saying it was a loss for both the party and himself as Gogi was like an elder brother to him.

Quoting Mandyan, ANI said, “We have received the very sad news of the demise of Gurpreet Gogi. We know it was an accident. This is a loss for the party and for me personally. He was like a big brother.”

Meanwhile, Punjab Minister Aman Arora posted on X, “Shocked and heartbroken by the loss of Ludhiana MLA Shri Gurpreet Gogi Bassi. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family at this difficult time. They are Get the strength to bear the painful loss. I pray to Allah that his soul rest in eternal peace.”
