“There will be no games in the guise of three capitals in our government. Our capital is Amravati. Amravati is the capital,” asserted Naidu.

As the first chief minister of bifurcated Andhra Pradesh between 2014 and 2019, he had floated the idea of Amaravati as the capital. However, Naidu’s thinking suffered a setback in 2019 when the TDP lost power and YSRCP led by YS Jaganmohan Reddy won a landslide victory. Reddy threw cold water on the Amravati capital plans and proposed a new idea of three capitals, which Naidu has now replaced with a single capital.

The NDA alliance of TDP, BJP and Janasena won the recently held simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state with a landslide victory in 164 Assembly and 21 Lok Sabha seats. This victory has breathed new life into the Amravati Capital City project.
