Anand Mahindra said that artificial intelligence (AI) could be more important to mankind than ‘ideas’. Citing a study that showed how AI can detect breast cancer five years before it develops, he wrote that “if it’s true, then AI might be more important to us than it already is. Ga more than we thought and much earlier than we thought.”

The Mahindra Group chairman took to microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to express his views.

Recently, a team of researchers from Duke University in the US developed a new AI model to predict 5-year breast cancer risk from mammograms.

Conventional cancer diagnosis relies on biopsy, microscopic histological examinations, and imaging techniques such as MRI, CT, and PET scans. Human interpretation of these tests can be subjective. On the other hand, AI can analyze medical images with astonishing accuracy.

An IANS report quoted Vineet Nakra, radiation oncologist at Max Super Specialty Hospital, on how AI is helping in cancer diagnosis and treatment. AI is helping pathologists diagnose cancer faster and paving the way for doctors to provide personalized and patient-centered cancer care, he told the news agency.

How X users reacted to Anand Mahindra’s post.
Commenting on Mahindra’s X post, one user wrote “This is the best use of technology anyway. Helping the human species to be better and reduce risks.” “AI will have a huge impact in the medical field and will definitely make important contributions. Google DeepMind’s AI system, Alphafold 3, can accurately predict the 3D structure of proteins and help in drug discovery. And has potential applications in understanding diseases,” commented another.

A third responded.
