In a recent announcement, the General Director of the CNPS addressed the cyber breach claims contained in the organization’s database. A group of individuals claimed to have hacked the CNPS system, demanding a ransom in exchange for not leaking sensitive data.
After investigation, it was determined that the limited information the scammers possessed came from the computers of two CNPS agents who inadvertently clicked on a malicious link. The extortionists tried to create the illusion of a major breach, allegedly enlisting the support of social media influencers to increase their risk and facilitate their ransom scheme.
The documents in the possession of the scammers are routine tools of common work within the CNPS and are of minimal importance, having no impact on the overall functioning of the organization.
In response to these threats, CNPS assured its stakeholders that the security of its information systems is a top priority. The organization confirmed that its services, including online offerings, continued to function as normal without any disruptions, despite attempts by these organized criminals to instill fear.
Furthermore, the CNPS is actively cooperating with the relevant authorities, in particular the National Agency for Information and Communication Technologies (ANTIC), and specialist service providers to strengthen the integrity of its information systems in light of the identified risks.
