The Commonwealth of Dominica will present its highest national award, the Dominica Award of Honour. Prime Minister Narendra ModiIn recognition of his support for Dominica during the Covid-19 pandemic and his dedication to strengthening the partnership between India and Dominica.

The award will be presented by the President of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Sylvanie Burton, at the India-CARICOM Summit to be held in Georgetown, Guyana on 19-21 November 2024.

In February 2021, India provided Dominica With 70,000 doses of AstraZeneca The Covid-19 vaccinean important partnership that also allowed Dominica to help neighboring Caribbean countries.

The award recognizes India’s continued support under PM Modi’s leadership in areas such as healthcare, education and information technology, as well as his commitment to global climate resilience and sustainable development.

Prime Minister Scrit says the award is a gesture of gratitude to Dominica for PM Modi’s solidarity with Dominica and the wider region.

“Prime Minister Modi has been a true partner to Dominica, especially in our time of need during the global health crisis. It is an honor to receive Dominica’s highest national honor for his support and our gratitude among our countries. As a reflection of the strong relationship, we look forward to advancing this partnership and advancing our shared vision of growth and resilience,” the Dominica Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement.

On accepting the award, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the importance of joint efforts to tackle global issues like climate change and geopolitical conflicts, the statement added. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to collaborate with Dominica and the Caribbean region on these critical challenges.

The Honorable Sylvanie Burton, President of the Commonwealth of Dominica, will attend the India-CARICOM Summit, along with the Prime Minister, the Honorable Roosevelt Skerritt. The forum provides an opportunity to discuss common priorities and explore new avenues of cooperation between India and CARICOM member states.
