Robot vacuum cleaners have come a long way since their inception and these machines are changing people’s cleaning routines. Whether for the home or outdoors, they aim to improve people’s lives, relieve them of chores and reduce stress levels. Robotic vacuum cleaners come in a variety of budgets and needs, with vacuuming and mopping functions with little or no effort on the part of the user, creating a much quieter environment.

Xiaomi’s sister brand, Dreame Technologies, hasn’t been around that long, but the Chinese appliance maker founded in 2017 has some interesting smart home products in its portfolio. Its DreamX40 Ultra is a new hands-free robot vacuum bot that does everything from emptying bins, filling mop tanks, and cleaning and drying their mop pads to limited by us. With intervention.

We have been using the Dreame X40 Ultra extensively for the past two weeks. Our hands-on test of the machine shows the pros and cons of this comprehensive cleaning solution for floors. It has self-emptying and self-cleaning features and features mop heads with MopExtend technology. The machine looks like a combo vacuum and mop robot, but it ships with an extended brush and mop pad.

With a price of Rs. 1,29,999, the Dreame X40 Ultra is the most expensive robot vacuum we’ve tested till date. However, it is already available at very low prices. Cost 99,999 on Amazon only. Dream provides a one-year warranty with its products purchased from Amazon (its official retail outlet). The company doesn’t have any physical service centers where buyers can go, but we were told that it will arrange for pickup and delivery of a product that needs repair.

Dreame X40 Ultra: What’s in the Box, Design

The Dreame X40 Ultra’s retail box includes a tall docking station, cleaning solution, side brush, two debris removal tools, two mop pads, a power cord, and the robot itself with documentation. Containers for clean and dirty water are placed in the base station. The robot cleaner comes in a round shape with a raised section on top that houses a laser-based navigation system. It includes an LED assist light, camera indicator, AI-based IR camera, AI HD camera, laser distance sensor and 3D dual-line sensor. It has a lid on top, which provides easy access to the on-device dust bin. At the top are three buttons: Spot Cleaning, Power (or Clean) and Dock. These can be used to control the basic functions of the vacuum cleaner without setting up the app. However, its entire feature set can only be accessed through the paired app.

The design of Dreame X40 Ultra looks premium but not too different from other products in the market.

Initial setup of the Dreame X40 Ultra works easily with the Dreame Home app (available on iOS and Android). After installing the app, you scan a QR code on the robot to add it to the Wi-Fi network, and the app takes the user by the hand and guides them through the installation. It offers a variety of functions, most of which we have already discussed in the Dreame L10s Ultra (Review) test.

After installing the ramp, the base station can be plugged in and charged. Once started, Dreame X40 Ultra creates virtual floor maps quickly without any hassle. The map is constantly adapted with every move, updating the location of pieces of furniture, laundry bags, and slippers. It has 2D and 3D map styles, and the new curtain zone in the app helps clean up under the curtains without getting stuck on them. In addition, users can edit the map according to room divisions, set-go zones, virtual walls or more. I found little to no mapping errors, and navigation accuracy was good even in the dark thanks to the 3D textured lighting.

Dreame X40 Ultra’s base station has self-emptying, self-cleaning, self-drying, self-refilling, and self-dispensing features with no intervention from you. Another highlight is the automatic dispensing of cleaning solution, coupled with a large dust bin that supports hands-free cleaning for weeks. Once you’ve filled the clean water tank and added the cleaning solution (200ml) bundled in the box, you’re good to go.

While the app works great when setting up a vacuum cleaner, it needs a bit of polishing. The interface feels a little dated. The most used settings are a few layers deep in the app, and the camera output lags a bit too. Cleaning practices could also be better organized.

DreamX40 Ultra: Cleanliness and performance

Dreame claims its X40 Ultra offers 12,000Pa suction power, which is impressive for a robot vacuum cleaner. The premium robot vacuum and mop offers many settings and customizations, from full carpet vacuuming to AI-guided cleaning. It can vacuum and mop simultaneously if needed, making cleaning faster. It offers silent, standard, turbo and maximum suction power options. I mainly stuck to the medium standard and turbo options. Additionally, it has a Clean Genius mode that allows the machine to choose cleaning parameters for users.

Dreame X40 Ultra’s cleaning modes include vacuum, mop, vacuum and mop, vacuum followed by mop, and custom room cleaning options. In the latter, you can set personalized suction and mopping preferences for each area. The option to vacuum first and then mop seems like a manual cleaning method, which I liked best. It also works with Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Siri. You can also select the humidity level from slightly dry, moist and wet options.

You can set the mop washing frequency depending on the area, time and room. The area can be set anywhere between 10sqm to 35sqm, and the robot can automatically wash the mop pad after cleaning a pre-set area. Will be back. If you choose a time, the robot will return to the base station to wash the mop pad at a set time from 10 minutes to 50 minutes. It is also possible to set up zones that allow the robot to return to the base station after cleaning a room or zone. Quick, Standard, Deep and Deep modes can be selected when using vacuuming and mopping tasks.

A notable feature of the DreamX40 Ultra is an extendable and liftable side brush that effectively moves up and down 10mm to get under ledges and under-seating furniture. This side brush performed well in our evaluation. One of the unique features of this device is its magnetic pads. The bot leaves them behind at the base station to vacuum the carpets, eliminating the possibility of the mop heads getting the carpets wet. Once complete, the boat returns to the dock to put on the mop pad and mop the entire area. The robot’s sensors ensure that the mops are being re-washed when needed.

Also, thanks to the new MopExtend RoboSwing cleaning technology that lifts mop heads up to 10.55mm square and protects carpets from moisture. With this functionality, the mop head will pop out to clean hard-to-reach spots like chair legs, sofa corners and kitchen cabinets.

Like recent vacuum and mop combos, Dream has used AI to identify objects here. Users can go into the camera feed to check on their pets remotely. It did a good job of picking up human hair (small) and lint, since I have a pet-free home. However, some of my long hair gets tangled in his brush. So, for households like mine with long hair, users need to make light work of removing tangled strands with a main brush at least once a week. Dreame is selling a TriCut brush that is designed separately to cut hair and prevent tangles. Despite the high price tag, it still only has one roller rubber brush.

Dreame has armed the base station with a 300ml dust bag which is claimed to last for 75 days of use. It wasn’t even close to perfect in my two weeks of testing, but I guess that would depend on how big the house is. After each run, the base station effectively empties the trash.

The Dreame X40 Ultra’s onboard water tank is 80ml, and the machine has large-capacity containers for dirty and clean water. Since they are large, I only have to fill them with clean water every couple of days. I chose to clean the dirty water after two or three runs so it wouldn’t start to smell. But after multiple runs the tank was never half full or more. Moreover, the robots identify and prioritize dirt and wet dirt.

The DreamX40 Ultra is quiet at its lowest setting but can get pretty loud when you increase its suction power. After cleaning the Dreame X40 Ultra, it rinses the mop with hot water and dries it with hot air to eliminate odors. I found the process a bit noisy. If you have small children in the house, mopping and removing dirt will accidentally wake them up. The noise of vacuuming alone is tolerable and can be done while taking a nap. The robot is intelligent enough to avoid automatic blanking during the DND period. It performs a self-cleaning ritual before and after cleaning sessions, and is smart enough to decide if the brush needs to be cleaned between each vacuum or mop session.

Dreame X40 Ultra: Battery Life

The Dreame X40 Ultra has a 6,400mAh battery that delivers impressive battery life. In normal suction mode, it vacuumed and mopped my roughly 1,200-square-foot home in about 50 minutes and still had 90 percent battery left. Coverage per charge area depends on your home size and cleaning settings. In Turbo mode, which uses more power to provide more suction, the device had 78 percent power after the run.

The decision

For homes with a mix of carpeted and hard floors, the Dreame X40 Ultra is a good robot vacuum option. You’ll never have to worry about dragging a dirty mop pad across the carpet as it lifts the entire mop head above the robot to clean soft floor surfaces. But all this comes at a price. For carpet-only homes, there are many affordable vacuum-only options to choose from.

The Dreame X40 Ultra excels in many areas as it assures the latest cleaning tech, hot water mop washing, and an extended mop pad with liftable side brush. However, there are minor drawbacks like the app experience, extra dust bag, and cleaning solution costs.

If you have the space for a base station (it takes a lot of space) and the budget, this robot vacuum cleaner does everything I’ve ever wanted it to. It’s perfect for families with small children or multiple pets, and for users like me who quickly become hyperactive in a cluttered, messy space. You won’t find a comparable solution from other manufacturers right now. For budget users, there are many great options at more affordable prices from brands like Xiaomi and Ecovacs.
