The incident came to light on Wednesday evening when Bhunje reached the Parksite police station with a complaint of email hacking.
An unknown person hacked a student’s email account and sent abusive mails to the IDs of the Consulate General of Poland in Mumbai and officials of a medical science university in the European country, police said on Thursday.
A case was registered against an unknown person based on the complaint of 18-year-old student Hiran Bhonje from Mumbai. An official said the incident came to light on Wednesday evening when Bhunje approached the Parksite police station with a complaint of email hacking.

The medical aspirant had applied for the visa and had submitted all the required details, including his email ID. He was also in touch with the authorities of a medical university in Poland for admission through his email, the official said.
Around 11.25 pm on Tuesday, an unknown person illegally accessed Bhonje’s email ID and sent abusive mails to Polish Consulate General in Mumbai and university officials, they said.
According to the complaint, the accused sent the mails in an attempt to damage the student’s career, block his admission and reject his visa application, the police official said.
He added that an FIR under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Naya Sanhita (BNS) and the IT Act has been registered at the Parksite Police Station in Vikhroli, and the investigation is on.
