A hiker from Scotland claimed she was detained there. Delhi Airport Thursday for allegedly carrying the Garmin Enreach, a GPS and satellite messaging device banned in India.

In a video Posted on InstagramThe hiker, Heather, alleged that she was pulled aside by security before her flight to Rishikesh.
“Today at around 10.30 am, I was going through security at Delhi airport to board an internal flight to Rishikesh. I innocently put my Garmin Reach in the tray to go through the scanner and was immediately pulled aside. Taken through security and told to wait,” Heather said in her post.
He said security officials later told him the Garmin Enreach device was banned in India and was being handed over to the police.
“I waited and waited, wondering what on earth was going on, finally I was told the Garmin was illegal here and they were handing me over to the police, I called. Embassy Waiting for the police but told there is little they can do as they are unable to intervene as I am in the hands of the law in this country…,” he wrote.
Heather claimed that she was later taken to a police station for questioning and asked to sign some documents.
“Eventually I was taken to the police station, where I was interrogated in a very friendly manner and asked to sign document after document. I took a ‘no comment’ position, foolishly or not; it was mine. Nature is, to be honest, and ultimately, there was no intention on my part,” she wrote in her post.
“… At 9 pm, I was finally released from the police station, but I have to come back to attend the court,” added the tourist.
In a similar incident, a Czech national was booked in Goa last month for carrying a Garmin Edge 540 GPS device, news agency PTI reported.
The device, banned in India, was found during screening at the Manohar International Airport in Mopa. North Goa. He has been booked under the provisions of the Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act, 1933 and has been issued a notice to appear before the Goa Police.
