A recent beta suggests that Google is working on a more conversational experience with Gemini during your downtime.
Code strings in v15.46.31.ve.arm64 of the Google app beta tease a new experience between Gemini Live and YouTube. Discovered by AssembleDebug (Android Authority), Google can create a “conversational mode” for the AI model when watching a video. One line of code mentions this feature’s teamwork directly with YouTube. However, there is more to it.
The tipster was able to develop a small portion of the feature in beta, showing what users could see. The image provided suggests that Gemini’s overlay may soon feature an “Ask about this video” chip. Speculation suggests that this will open up users to ongoing conversations with Gemini about video content.
Users can reportedly ask about what’s in the video with the opportunity to submit follow-up questions.
It’s not clear whether users can verbally say their question or whether typing is the only way forward. Although little discovered, another line of code prompts users to turn up their device’s volume “to hear Gemini.”
While this feature seems like a possible next step after Circle to Search, the alleged Gemini Live feature looks a lot like YouTube. A year ago, YouTube launched an AI experiment with premium users that allowed them to experience a conversational experience. The test included two features: AI-powered summaries for comments and a new “Ask” button for videos.
The latter was featured alongside a Gemini-esque star with share and like buttons under a video. After the conversation, testers were greeted with three question prompts: “Summarize this video,” “Tell me more about this topic,” and “Suggest related content.”
While this It seems Like Gemini Live will lack a summary section, it will at least let users question their interest. Additionally, users can continue to “ask” YouTube about the video they were watching, similar to asking a follow-up question.
In addition to the launch of its official dedicated app on iOS, Gemini Live was rumored to gain file management capabilities via Google Drive.
