What do you want to know?
- Google is working on a “Manage Subscriptions” page for the Gmail app, which will help users cut down on redundant emails.
- This page will let users know which companies are sending too many emails “per quarter” with a simple unsubscribe button.
- Google began rolling out an unsubscribe button with the sender’s name in Gmail in January.
It looks like Google is rolling out a new manager for Gmail users to help reduce subscriptions that are clogging up their inboxes.
As seen. Panica WebGoogle plans to implement a new “Manage Subscriptions” section for the Gmail app (via 9to5Google). Discovered in the latest version of Gmail (v2024.04.07.62), the new management option now appears in the sidebar, accessible via the hamburger menu icon.
A dive into the code shows how it will work. Tapping the option will take users to a dedicated “Subscriptions” page.
Several newly added lines of code specify that users will get a “button to unsubscribe from the mailing list.” The other strings are supposed to be filtered because they show a certain number of “subscribed” emails that the user has received “per quarter”. The number of emails ranges from 10 to a maximum of 20.
If a company falls within one of these parameters, users should see that company’s logo with a button to easily unsubscribe from those emails, according to the publication.
Also, a few Users on Reddit Have seen alerts in the Gmail app notifying them of a new subscription page. The new page lets users “view all their mailing lists and unsubscribe from unwanted messages,” the alert said.
The problem is that there is no specificity. in fact there. Users are unable to find it in the sidebar, and tapping “Try Now” puts the app into a loading loop.
Interestingly, this “Manage” page looks like an extension of Google’s previous update for subscriptions in Gmail. In January, the company introduced an option for Gmail that placed a simple “unsubscribe” button next to the sender’s name when reading an email. Tapping it will send users through the process of unsubscribing from that company, as usual.
This was a way to make it easier and more convenient to skip unwanted subscriptions, as this option was previously hidden inside the three-dot menu.
In addition to mailing lists, the Gmail app was recently seen testing a new “summary of this email” feature. This is part of Gemini’s capabilities and will allow users to use the main points of long emails without having to read them.
