- In an internal memo, Google CEO Sundar Pichai previewed what employees should expect by 2025.
- After watching the demo, Pichai was impressed by the “amazing” progress Google is making with new AI features.
- Some of the things that Google may release in 2025 are the full Gemini 2.0 model and Project Astra.
Last year, Google started 2024 with massive layoffs, and its CEO Sundar Pichai had to send an internal memo to employees explaining the company’s plan. At the start of 2025, it looks like Google is in a very different place, as an internal memo from Pichai showed. 9to5Google In an email to employees, Google’s CEO cited the “amazing” future development of AI features that are currently in development.
“We ended 2024 on a very high note with Gemini 2.0, Willow, View 2, and innovations in Search, YouTube, Cloud, Android, Pixel, and more,” Pichai wrote. “All of this is underpinned by our technical and AI leadership, made possible by our full-stack approach, and people inspired by what we’ve built.”
By the full-stack approach, Google’s chief executive is likely referring to the development of the company’s AI features, the Gemini models that enable them, and the Tensor smartphone processors that drive them. Google is able to build efficient, customized AI features by controlling the software, SOC, and AI models from the top down.
“As we start the year, I’m looking forward to demos of the products and features we’re rolling out over the next few months,” continued Pichai. “The progress is amazing, and I’m sure we’ll continue that momentum into 2025.”
Google already has some features in the works for 2025 that we know about, like Project Astra. It’s a multimodal AI interface that we tested at Google I/O 2024 and opened to waitlist signups in December. There’s also a crop of Gemini 2.0 models, which are now listed as “experimental” but should be fully released this year. Other projects, such as Project Mariner, may make an appearance.
Of course there are plans that we don’t even know about. If Pichai’s remarks are any indication, 2025 could be a good year for AI for Google.
