A report arises from hearsay Android Headlineswhich claims that Google has abandoned the “Pixel Tablet 3” idea. The publication claims that the company “decided last week” to reject Project “Kyomi”.
Sources close to the matter have “confirmed” that Google has reassigned the Pixel Tablet 3 team to other areas within the company.
Strangely enough, a recent report by Mashaal Rehman (Android Authority) states that Google has actually canceled its Pixel Tablet 2. Rahman’s alleged evidence is that the rumored “Kyomi” codename refers to a second-generation tablet, not a future third-generation one. Furthermore, it appears that Google was in the early stages of the Pixel Tablet 2 with only whispers and ideas for the Tablet 3, which had not yet started its development cycle.
Rumors claim that Google is working to bring Wi-Fi and 5G connectivity to the Pixel Tablet 2, codenamed Kiyomi. Additionally, Rahman reiterated previous findings that suggest Kiyomi will debut with the Tensor G4 while the Pixel Tablet 3 will (possibly) have the G6. More importantly, Rahman claims that Google is walking away from the Tablet 2 over concerns that it “won’t sell very well.”
With rumors surfacing from two different regions, it’s wise to take what’s said with a grain of salt. Android Central has reached out to Google for more information on the cancellation of this future Pixel tablet. We’ll update this article when we hear back.
What’s more, Rahman says the “Pixel Tablet 3” could still be around in some capacity. It remains to be seen what name it comes with and what features it can bring.
Cancellation rumors about any device are strange, especially considering the development rumors that have surfaced about them recently. The Pixel Tablet 2 was reportedly entering its prototyping phase with one valuable accessory: a keyboard. It was rumored to come as a “keyboard cover,” meaning it would protect the tablet’s display during transport and support it while typing.
Elsewhere, rumors claimed that the design of the Pixel Tablet 2 was similar to the original 2023 device.
Speculations about a possible Pixel Tablet 3 claimed that Google is giving it computer-like power. The company was reportedly looking forward to providing the tablet with a second USB-C port. The report states that the port will support DisplayPort output with the USB 3.2 standard. With such support, the Pixel Tablet 3 will support an additional external display, making it easier for users to do some work as if they were on a laptop.
However, with the way the rumors are flying at the moment, it’s hard to know which way Google is going until it makes an official statement.
