(Bloomberg) — Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni addressed a national scandal over the illegal sale of classified personal data, saying some public servants acted dishonestly in a case that saw political and business leaders Data has been hacked from national security databases.

“There was a case of a bank employee who accessed accounts,” including some held by Maloney and his family, the prime minister said.

Maloney, 47, has regularly said he is the target of undercover smear campaigns, but has generally not provided evidence to back up his claims.

Speaking about civil servants who may have been involved in the case, the prime minister said it was “unacceptable that their superiors would not realize that sensitive data was illegally accessed millions of times. has gone.”
